For Everyone
We are excited to work with people who are interested in understanding the kinetics of catalytic reactions. The ideal applicant will be excited to work at the interface of experiments, applied mathematics, and data science, and energize the new research team. English will be the main langauge for scientific communication within our group. More details on mentoring policy and expectations can be found here.

- identify what is missing in the skillset of our current members
- and demonstrate that you can fill the gap.
For Postdocs
All postdoc positions are filled at the moment of writing (June 2026), but we may have openings from April 2027 depending on the funding situation. The most reliable way to join us is to secure your own salary, such as through the scholarship programs listed below. The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is the biggest funder for postdoc scholarships in Japan. The details can be found here. This program is quite competitive, but is typically considered to be among the best postdoc positions in Japan in terms of financial support and prestige. Standard applications are due around April or May each year. There is another call usually around August for people coming from outside Japan. Please also consider the ICYS program, which is an institite-specific program for postdocs and independent researchers. Deadlines are usually in March and September.
For Engineers / Part-time Workers
We are currently accepting applications from people with experimental experience, especially if you can help us automate our lab. We may consider theoretical applicants with exceptional Python or Notion skills. Please contact me for details.
For PhD Candidates
We welcome PhD students already enrolled in a doctoral program in Japan. The most reliable funding route is the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) DC1/DC2 fellowship. If you are interested in applying for DC1/DC2 with our lab as your host, please contact us to discuss. Additionally, many university have specific programs to support PhD candidates. In case of Tsukuba University, where Hideshi holds an associate professorship, the Graduate Research Assistant system provides a monthly stipend to students pursuing careers in materials science.
For Master Students
The Graduate Research Assistant system at Tsukuba University is also open for Master students.
